まず、4月30日に New Orleans Jazz Fest に出演する予定でしたが、豪雨の影響で、Beck を含むヘッドライナー枠が（も？）すべてキャンセルになりました。テレビでの放送も決まってたのに残念でしたねー。この夜 Beck は、Arcade Fire や My Morning Jacket のメンバーなどと一緒にセカンドライン（ブラスバンドのパレード）に混じったりと、New Orleans の夜を楽しんだそうな。（参考：theneworleansadvocate.com）

で、翌5月1日は、テネシー州メンフィス（Memphis）にて開催中の Beale Street Music Festival に出演しました。バンドはいつものメンバーで新曲はなし。セットリストは setlist.fm より。

また、この日、JMJ が Beck バンド最後の日となりました。JMJ は Beck への感謝とその苦渋の決断を Instagram に書いています。JMJ はプロデューサー業などのスタジオワークに重点を置くようです。スタジオも作り、ファミリーも増えたことだし、Beck に自分の時間を捧げてる場合じゃなくなったのでしょう。Beck にとってもファンにとっても JMJ は特別なバンドメンバーだったと思います。もうライブで彼のアフロや Beck とのヘンテコな絡みを見れないのは残念ですが、これからもそのアフロを大切に、よい音楽を作ってほしいと思います。ありがとう JMJ！

Hey. It's been really really nice reading your expressions of love and appreciation for the 20 years of performing and recording I've been privileged to do with @beck. Thank you! I'm proud of the work, and it's been incredibly fun and satisfying, not to mention something I've always made a very personal investment in. Those who have seen me performing with him and the guys knows that I treat it no differently than if it was my own band. Beck is a bona fide genius, and I've been extremely fortunate to be in his orbit for so long. The thing is, my producing career has sort of taken over, and I have obligations in that department for the rest of the year. Likewise, Beck has lots of plans, and certainly can't wait around for me. So with some heavy deliberation, I made the challenging decision to bow out. That was a tough one for me…it feels sort of like I've cut my right arm off. So here I am, focusing on being creative in the studio for now, and DEFINITELY not "retiring". I don't even know what that means. Plus, there's one simple fact that I have come to terms with: my first love, performing and recording as a bass player/musician, is also my greatest love. I'm doubtful that will ever change. With that, I hope that I get to see you again, in one context or another. You probably won't be able to keep me away. Xo, JMJ
